VOWordCounter gets a redesigned homepage with gradient tool cards and a value proposition grid, site-wide typography upgrades with DM Serif Display and DM Sans, and a refreshed Script Timer result display.
February 2026 brings a major visual refresh to VOWordCounter. Phew! It was a grind.
The homepage has been rebuilt from the ground up, the site now uses a refined type system, and the Script Timer sports a new result display. Here’s what changed and why.
Redesigned Homepage
The old homepage had dense paragraphs of text that were hard to read. The new design leads with a clear hero section that introduces both tools, the Script Counter and the Script Timer, as gradient cards you can click to jump right in.
An amber-to-gold gradient represents the Script Counter; a green gradient represents the Script Timer. The color theme for these tools is consistent across the entire website.
Below the hero, a three-column value proposition grid explains what makes VOWordCounter different from standard word counters. You already know that it’s accurate quoting based on spoken word counts, expansion of numbers and currency to their spoken forms, and instant time estimates tuned to your speaking pace that make all the difference.
A step-by-step “How It Works” section walks new visitors through the workflow — paste your script, expand it, and get your count — so the tools make sense even if you’ve never used them before. Dedicated detail sections for each tool follow, highlighting key capabilities like currency support, date expansion, adjustable pace, and spot-length awareness.
The page closes with our newsletter signup (it’s actually just and update signup. We have nothing to sell you) and a community section encouraging feedback. We’re always looking for ways to improve the site and the tools.
Typography and Color Updates
The site now uses a two-font pairing across the homepage: DM Serif Display for headings and DM Sans for body text. DM Serif Display brings a classic editorial feel to section headings, while DM Sans keeps body copy clean and highly readable at smaller sizes.
The color palette has been refined around a navy blue primary, warm amber accents, and a soft cream background for alternating sections. These changes give the homepage a more polished, professional look while keeping the interface lightweight and fast.
Script Timer Visual Refresh
The Script Timer result display has been completely reworked. Previously, the result appeared in a separate sidebar element. It now lives inside the main tool section as a frosted white inset card with a gold accent border along the left edge.
Key changes to the timer display:
- Hero numerals: The time result renders in a large monospace font, making it easy to read at a glance.
- Contextual annotations: Below the time, a brief note like “Fits a :30 spot” or “Typical audiobook chapter” tells you what the duration means in practical terms.
- Empty state: Before you enter a word count, the display shows a placeholder with a hint instead of a blank space.
- Preset buttons: Speaking pace presets use translucent pill-shaped buttons with an active state highlight.
The result is a timer that’s easier to scan, more informative, and visually consistent with the rest of the site.
Under the Hood
If you’re the kind of person who’s interested in what goes on below the surface, here’re more info. The homepage uses BEM-style class naming (like hp-hero__card and hp-value__grid) scoped entirely to the .home-page class. This keeps all homepage styles isolated from the tool pages, so no existing layouts were affected by the redesign. The Script Timer result card uses a similar approach with .timer-result__* classes.
The site’s static asset cache-busting version was bumped to 1.3.1 to ensure returning visitors pick up the new styles immediately.
Now that you know… what are you going to do with this? 🤔
